ASK TV : Lost?

Fun and glamour! Well, maybe just fun...=P

Like we posted earlier, we made a video with just one main subject, instead of three or four. It's in response to "Finding God in [insert pop culture phenomenon here]"-type sermons.

Note: all verses we used were from the KJV

The particular sermon we focus on is one about Lost, the tv show. Now I know some people will cry and wail saying we took his words out of context, since we could only show you a couple clips of the sermon instead of the entire thing, but meh - we didn't. Don't believe us? You can listen to the sermon here, it's about 25 minutes long.

I just realized that he replied to my comment on the page. I forgot I had left one there. Anyways, he clarifies his "It doesn't matter what religion you are, God loves it all" statement. He says this:

"If I said that 'God loves it all', I apologize. I meant that God loves everybody no matter their religious beliefs, that’s my understanding of John 3:16."

Which I'm not really going to let him off the hook for, anyways. Maybe if the rest of his sermon had a shred of sense in it, I could understand a misstatement - but this entire sermon was completely ecumenical.

Bring back the reformation, rah, rah, rah.

He also says this:

"When can we teach? When we have confronted people with their sin and depravity or when we are acting like Christ and teaching with our lives? I suppose both, but I know which one I would respond to! "

Well, if I do recall, Christ did preach about sin and depravity among other things, he wasn't some silent miracle maker. He overturned merchants tables in the temple! He called the pharisees vipers, and he preached things like, "Woe unto thee, Chorazin! Woe unto thee, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. " (Matt 11: 21-22) There are a bunch of other verses where he was declaring woe upon other various things. He did this to bring conviction, I believe.

Anyways, in the technical realm: we got microphones! Well, we got them the day after we filmed, so you'll see them next time. They're so cool, way better than that stick thing we used to have. Oh, and if anyone knows a good free .flv (flash video) to video converter, that would be great. Lack of such a program explains why I had to film the YouTube clips on my computer, lol. High tech, that's me.

Happy new year! See you in 2007!

While I don't think his entire sermon was rediculous, I agree with you guys on almost all points. Our culture can be a very good example to use in teaching and metaphor, and I don't disagree with this guy for simply using Lost as his main illustration, but it has to be backed by solid scripture reference or it's nothing more than talking about the truths that Lost itself has to offer instead of the truths that God has to offer in the Bible. Good job, guys.

I got a new vid camera for Christmas... perhaps I'll try and steal some of your viewers in the future. :P

"While I don't think his entire sermon was ridiculous."

Well, rat poison is 99% good for you...lol.

"...or it's nothing more than talking about the truths that Lost itself has to offer..."

He didn't even mention any of the essential truths of Lost, such as:

1) Jack and Sawyer are good looking

and, umm....

umm...

lol. that's all I can think of. =P

Hah! That'd be totally cool if you started video blogging! You'll need some good software though, because cool editing features really can turn boring footage into awesomeness. I really like Sony Vegas Platinum Studio, which I got for $130 Cdn. I hear Adobe After Effects is good too, but I'm not sure if it has as many features.

Anyways, thanks for commenting! Happy new year!
